Price: $75.00

Quantity: 1 available

One of 660 copies. 10 x 7.5 inches. Light oxblood-colored buckram binding, with crisp gilt-stamped title label to the spine and with a crisp gilt-stamped design to the front board. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Scarcely a hint of shelf life. T.E.G. With x and 260 numbered pages. Decorative title page. With decorative chapter initials and with B&W sketches by the distinguished book illustrator, Fritz Kredel. The body matter is hand set in Bruce Rogers' 14 pt. Centaur by George W. Van Vechten, Jr., while the press work is by George C. Montgomery. Slight flaw in the paper to the page opposite the title page. Else the book is exceptionally clean, inside and out. Very gently read. The text block is soldily attached to the binding. The medium-duty, hardboard, plain slipcase is giving along two edges. However, it has done a very good job protecting the book. A Fine copy in a Very Good Minus slipcase. Published in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the invention of printing from movable types. Of special interest are the facsimiles of the Strasbourg Documents, including the original Alsatian text, the French version of Laborde, the modern English version, and the modern German version. The Press of the Woolly Whale was founded in 1928 by Melbert B. Cary, Jr.
