Presumed first printing of the first edition. Printed and bound in the USA 10.75 x 8 inches. Medium gray linen-like buckram binding with crisp red-stamped lettering to the front board and to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Textblock firmly bound in. Illustrated pastedowns. xi and 388 numbered pages, including 317 B&W archival photos taken by the author. Minor age toning to the edges of all pages. Very small sticker of former bookseller to the half title page. Else an exceptionally clean copy, inside and out. No remainder marks. Gently read. The dust jacket is not price-clipped. DJ noticeably age-yellowed along the spine and the upper sections of the front and back. DJ with a new Mylar DJ protector. A Very Good Minus copy in a Good Minus DJ. Elizabeth Compton Hegemann [1897-1962] was a determined collector of American Indian and Spanish Colonial crafts as well as an ardent camera user. Many of the photographs in the book were taken by the author in the 1920s and 1930s.
